Following a period of study and discussion, a diverse group of Seventh-day Adventist theologians, medical experts, healthcare administrators, ethicists and Church administrators have worked to produce a draft Statement addressing a biblical view of abortion.
The last time the denomination issued guidelines on abortion was in 1992. A voted Statement outlines the Adventist Church’s official position on a specific matter. Guidelines offer direction for practical application on a specific subject.

Kettering Adventist HealthCare has opened a new hospital in Troy, Ohio, just north of Dayton. A record number of network employees and local community members attended the ribbon cutting, and you could feel the electricity of excitement in the air. The new hospital features 29 medical-surgical beds, cardiac testing, and surgical services in addition to a full-service, 24/7 Emergency Department with 12 beds. The hospital also includes office spaces for primary care visits and other specialized health services.

Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center has a new leader. Dan Cochran, the hospital’s Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer, became its president effective Aug. 19. Cochran takes over for John Sackett, who is handing off duties at the hospital to focus on his role as Chief Operating Officer of the Adventist HealthCare system.
Terry Forde, the Chief Executive Officer of Adventist HealthCare, announced the changes internally in July, praising Cochran’s talents as an executive. “Dan has managed the complexities of hospital finance and been a stalwart supporter of Shady Grove’s growth and patient experience initiatives,” Forde said.
